About Gem Rush
Gem Rush is the game this site is named after, and it is the clearest expression of what a gem rush actually is: not just collecting quickly, but collecting continuously. The gems are arranged in flowing waves rather than isolated pickups, and the distance between them is tuned so that a clean run reads as one long line rather than a series of grabs.
The mechanic that makes it its own game is the Rush meter, drawn as a small bar above your character. It fills as your collection streak grows and drains when the streak breaks. At full Rush the world accelerates by about twelve per cent and every gem pays a bonus on top of your combo multiplier — so the reward for a long chain is not only more points, but a visibly faster, more demanding game.
That acceleration is deliberate friction. Full Rush is the best scoring state and the hardest state to survive in, which means a great Gem Rush run has a rhythm to it: build the chain, ride the speed for as long as your reactions hold, and accept the reset when it comes. Players who treat Rush as something to protect at all costs usually score worse than players who treat it as something to keep re-earning.
How to play Gem Rush
Objective
Run as far as you can, collect gems without breaking your streak, and fill the Rush meter to multiply everything you collect.
Keyboard
- Space / ↑ / W — Jump — press again in mid-air for a double jump
- ↓ / S — Slide under low hazards
- P / Esc — Pause and resume
- M — Mute or unmute
- R — Restart once the run is over
Touch
- Jump button — Jump, and tap again for the double jump
- Slide button — Hold to slide under a low hazard
- Tap the play area — Start the run from the ready screen
What to avoid
Blocks, spike clusters, spinning cutters, blinking beams and open pits. Every hazard is visible before it reaches you — nothing spawns on top of the player.
How to collect gems in Gem Rush
Gems are laid out in waves, arcs and zig-zags across the canyon, most of them at jump height so collecting is a jump-timing problem rather than a steering one. Running into a gem collects it automatically — there is no collect button. Crystals appear in roughly a quarter of the waves and are worth half again as much as a plain gem, treasure gems mark the routes that need a double jump, and a diamond or a rare gem occasionally sits above a hazard with a red warning ring around it. Anything that scrolls off the left edge of the screen uncollected counts as a miss and resets your streak, so an awkward gem you decide to skip is only free if you skip the whole cluster.
Gems
The standard collectible, worth 10 points before your multiplier. The backbone of every streak.
Crystals
Worth 15 points. Usually laid out in trails and arcs rather than singly.
Diamonds
Worth 50 points. Bright white and always in an awkward position.
Treasure
Worth 35 points. Bar-shaped treasure gems mark a route worth a detour.
Power-ups
Gem Magnet
Pulls nearby gems toward you for eight seconds, so you can hold a streak through an awkward gap.
Gem Multiplier
Doubles the base value of every gem for eight seconds. Stacks on top of your combo multiplier.
Shield
Absorbs one collision. Your run and your collection streak both survive the hit.
Speed Boost
Increases your movement speed for six seconds. Faster routes, but less time to read what is ahead.
Scoring and combos
Each gem is worth its base value multiplied by your current combo multiplier. Distance adds a small trickle on top, and while the Rush meter is full every gem pays an additional fifty per cent bonus. Because the bonus is applied per gem rather than as a flat end-of-run figure, a full-Rush stretch through a dense wave is by far the biggest scoring opportunity in the game.
Every five gems collected in a row raises your multiplier by one, to a ceiling of five times. A missed gem or an unshielded hit sends it straight back to one. Twenty gems collected as one unbroken chain is worth roughly three times the same twenty gems collected with breaks in between.
The streak counts every gem you collect without missing one and without taking an unshielded hit. Five gems takes you to a two-times multiplier, ten to three, fifteen to four and twenty to five, which is the ceiling. The Rush meter tracks the same streak on a slower curve — it needs about eighteen gems to fill and drains gradually rather than snapping back to zero, which is what makes a single mistake recoverable.
Difficulty
Gem Rush sits at medium difficulty. The speed starts at 330 pixels per second and climbs toward 680 over roughly ninety seconds, while the gaps between obstacle patterns tighten and pits start appearing about twenty seconds in. The curve flattens as it approaches its ceiling, so a long run gets harder in smaller and smaller increments rather than eventually becoming impossible. The double jump and the slide are both available from the first second, so nothing is gated behind progress.
Tips for a better score
- Use the double jump to extend a line of gems, not to correct a bad first jump. Save it for the wave that arcs above your normal jump height.
- Watch the Rush bar, not the score. When it is nearly full, take the safe line through the next cluster — the bonus is worth more than any single risky gem.
- Slide early. The slide has a short start-up, so beginning it as the beam enters the screen is far more reliable than reacting when it is close.
- At full Rush the world is faster than your muscle memory expects. Consciously move a fraction earlier for the whole duration rather than trying to keep up.
- Skip whole clusters, never half of one. Half a cluster costs you the streak for the same reason a full miss does.
- If your streak breaks early in a run, keep going for another twenty seconds anyway — Rush rebuilds fast enough that an early mistake is not a lost run.

Frequently asked questions about Gem Rush
What is the Rush meter and how do I fill it?
It is the small bar above your character. It fills as you collect gems consecutively and needs roughly eighteen gems without a miss to reach full. At full Rush the world speeds up by about twelve per cent and every gem you collect pays a fifty per cent bonus on top of your combo multiplier.
Does Gem Rush ever end?
Only when you do. It is an endless runner: the run continues until you hit a hazard, fall into a pit, or run into a block head-on. Your score is the record of how long you kept the chain and the run alive.
Why did my multiplier reset when I did not get hit?
A gem that leaves the left edge of the screen uncollected counts as a miss, and a miss resets the multiplier exactly like a hit does. This is why skipping half a cluster costs you as much as taking a hit would.
Is the double jump available straight away?
Yes. Nothing in Gem Rush is unlocked by progress. The double jump and the slide are both available from the first second of your first run.
How is my high score stored?
In your browser's local storage, on this device only. It is a local best, not a worldwide ranking — we do not run a server and we do not collect scores from anyone.
