About Magnet Gem Rush

Magnet Gem Rush is a runner with a second verb, and that verb is a trade. Holding the charge button widens your magnet field from 95 pixels to as much as 305, pulling in gems you could never physically reach — while cutting your speed to eighty per cent.

That trade is the entire game. A wide field collects more gems per metre; a narrow field covers more metres per second. Neither is correct, and the right answer changes with the density of the layout in front of you. Sparse stretches want speed. Dense clusters want reach. Reading which is which, a second ahead, is the skill.

The slow-down also changes your obstacle timing, which is the part that catches people out. A charged run arrives at a beam later than an uncharged one, so committing to a wide field is committing to a different rhythm as well as a different collection radius.

How to play Magnet Gem Rush

Objective

Decide continuously whether to run fast with a narrow field or slow down and pull in gems you could not otherwise reach.

Keyboard

  • Space / ↑ / W — Jump — press again in mid-air for a double jump
  • Shift / X / ↓ — Hold to charge the magnet field wider — you slow down while charging
  • P / Esc — Pause and resume
  • M — Mute or unmute
  • R — Restart once the run is over

Touch

  • Magnet button — Hold to charge the field
  • Jump button — Jump, and tap again for the double jump
  • Tap the play area — Start the run from the ready screen

What to avoid

Blocks, spikes, spinning cutters, beams and gaps at standard runner density. Charging slows you down, which changes your timing on every one of them.

How to collect gems in Magnet Gem Rush

Gems are laid out at standard runner density — waves, arcs and zig-zags — but the layouts are deliberately wider vertically than in our other runners, with clusters placed above and below the line a running character naturally follows. Those are the gems a wide field is for. A dashed ring shows your current magnet radius while charging, so the reach is never guesswork. Power-up magnets add to your charged radius rather than replacing it, which is why Gem Vacuum in this game is close to a clear-the-screen button.

Gems

The standard collectible, worth 10 points before your multiplier. The backbone of every streak.

Crystals

Worth 15 points. Usually laid out in trails and arcs rather than singly.

Treasure

Worth 35 points. Bar-shaped treasure gems mark a route worth a detour.

Diamonds

Worth 50 points. Bright white and always in an awkward position.

Power-ups

Gem Magnet

Pulls nearby gems toward you for eight seconds, so you can hold a streak through an awkward gap.

Gem Vacuum

Sweeps up every gem in a wide radius automatically for five seconds.

Gem Multiplier

Doubles the base value of every gem for eight seconds. Stacks on top of your combo multiplier.

Shield

Absorbs one collision. Your run and your collection streak both survive the hit.

Scoring and combos

Base value times your combo multiplier, plus a distance trickle. Because charging costs speed and speed pays distance, the two scoring streams genuinely pull against each other — but gems at a high multiplier dominate the arithmetic, which is why a charge-heavy playstyle usually outscores a sprint even though it covers less ground.

The combo rule

Every five gems collected in a row raises your multiplier by one, to a ceiling of five times. A missed gem or an unshielded hit sends it straight back to one. Twenty gems collected as one unbroken chain is worth roughly three times the same twenty gems collected with breaks in between.

Standard streak rules, and this is the game where the magnet most directly protects them. A wide field turns a cluster you would otherwise clip into a cluster you sweep entirely, which is the difference between a broken chain and a multiplier step. Charging defensively — widening the field purely to catch the gem you are about to miss — is a legitimate and underused tactic.

Difficulty

Medium. Speed runs from 320 to 640 over about ninety-two seconds with standard hazard density, but effective difficulty depends on your own charging. A run held at full charge is slower and more forgiving to collect in, and harder to time obstacles against. There is no penalty for never charging at all beyond the gems you leave behind.

Tips for a better score

  1. Charge between clusters, not inside them. You want the field already wide when the gems arrive.
  2. Release before a hazard you have already timed. A charged approach arrives later than an uncharged one and will throw your jump off.
  3. Use a defensive charge to save a streak — widening the field for half a second to catch one gem you were going to miss is often worth more than any cluster.
  4. Sparse stretch, no charge. Dense stretch, full charge. Read the layout rather than holding a habit.
  5. Gem Vacuum stacks on top of your charged field. Taken at full charge it clears almost everything on screen.
  6. The dashed ring is your actual reach. If a gem is outside it, no amount of steering will get it.

Frequently asked questions about Magnet Gem Rush

What does charging actually do?

It widens your magnet field from 95 pixels up to about 305, pulling in gems you could not physically reach — and cuts your speed to eighty per cent while you hold it.

Is it better to always charge?

No. A wide field collects more per metre but covers fewer metres, and it shifts your obstacle timing. Sparse stretches are worth running fast; dense clusters are worth charging for.

Why did I hit a beam I normally clear?

Because charging slowed you down and you arrived later than your timing expected. Releasing the charge before a hazard you have already read is part of playing this game well.

Do power-up magnets replace my charged field?

No, they add to it. A Gem Vacuum collected at full charge gives you the widest collection radius available anywhere on the site.

Can I play without ever charging?

Yes, and it plays as a perfectly ordinary runner. You will simply leave behind the gems that were placed above and below the running line for the field to reach.
