About Crystal Cave Collector
Crystal Cave Collector is the slowest-paced game on the site, and that is the point. Nothing chases you at speed and nothing spawns without warning. The pressure comes from the clock and from the fact that you cannot see most of what you are looking for.
Roughly half the crystals in each cave start hidden. They appear as faint dashed outlines and only become solid — and collectable — once you pass within about two and a half tiles. Combined with the lamp vignette that darkens everything beyond your light radius, this turns each run into a genuine search problem: which passages have you actually covered, and which ones are you assuming you covered?
The caves are generated fresh every run using a room-and-corridor algorithm, so memorising a layout is not a strategy. What does transfer between runs is search discipline. Players who sweep the perimeter first and then work inward consistently clear levels with time to spare; players who wander finish with a third of the map unexplored and the timer at zero.
How to play Crystal Cave Collector
Objective
Clear every crystal in the cave before the lamp timer runs out, then do it again in a larger cave.
Keyboard
- ↑ ↓ ← → / WASD — Move in any of eight directions
- P / Esc — Pause and resume
- M — Mute or unmute
- R — Restart once the run is over
Touch
- Direction buttons — Move through the cave
- Drag on the play area — Steer toward your finger, which is faster in open chambers
- Tap the play area — Start the run from the ready screen
What to avoid
Falling rock spikes, unstable energy orbs and a cave crawler that patrols the tunnels. Contact costs one unit of energy and sends you back to the cave entrance; run out of energy and the expedition ends.
How to collect gems in Crystal Cave Collector
Walk over a crystal to collect it. Visible crystals sit in plain sight in corridors and chambers; hidden ones reveal themselves when you get close, accompanied by a short chime and a 'FOUND' marker. The generator weights room interiors toward the higher-value types, so a detour into a chamber is far more likely to return treasure gems and diamonds than a corridor is. Because this is a clear-the-level game rather than an endless run, every crystal in the cave has to be collected before the level completes — there is no skipping an awkward one.
Crystals
Worth 15 points. Usually laid out in trails and arcs rather than singly.
Gems
The standard collectible, worth 10 points before your multiplier. The backbone of every streak.
Treasure
Worth 35 points. Bar-shaped treasure gems mark a route worth a detour.
Diamonds
Worth 50 points. Bright white and always in an awkward position.
Power-ups
Gem Magnet
Pulls nearby gems toward you for eight seconds, so you can hold a streak through an awkward gap.
Shield
Absorbs one collision. Your run and your collection streak both survive the hit.
Speed Boost
Increases your movement speed for six seconds. Faster routes, but less time to read what is ahead.
Scoring and combos
Each crystal pays its base value multiplied by your combo multiplier, and clearing a level awards 300 points plus fifteen points for every second still on the clock. That time bonus is substantial: finishing a level with forty seconds left is worth another 600 points on top of the clear, which is why efficient searching beats exhaustive searching.
Every five gems collected in a row raises your multiplier by one, to a ceiling of five times. A missed gem or an unshielded hit sends it straight back to one. Twenty gems collected as one unbroken chain is worth roughly three times the same twenty gems collected with breaks in between.
Your streak builds across the whole level rather than resetting between chambers, so a clean sweep from entrance to last crystal can hold a five-times multiplier for the entire clear. The two things that break it are taking a hit and — rarely here — a timed gem expiring. Since nothing in this game forces you past a hazard, a broken streak in Crystal Cave Collector is almost always avoidable.
Difficulty
Medium. The first cave is small and the timer generous at ninety-five seconds. Each level adds cave size, hazard count and a second crawler, while the timer tightens by six seconds a lap down to a floor it never drops below. Because the layout is generated, difficulty rises through the amount of ground you must cover rather than through reaction demands.
Tips for a better score
- Sweep the perimeter first, then work inward through the branches you passed. It covers more ground with less backtracking than wandering does.
- Check chambers before corridors. Rooms hold the dense, high-value clusters; corridors mostly hold single crystals.
- Do not chase the crawler's route — learn it and cross behind it. It bounces along passages rather than following you.
- The speed power-up is worth more here than anywhere else on the site, because speed converts directly into map coverage.
- If the level is nearly clear and you cannot find the last crystal, retrace the passages you entered but did not walk to the end of. Hidden crystals are almost always in a stub you turned around in.
- Watch the time bonus, not just the clock. Finishing thirty seconds early is worth more than an extra diamond.

Frequently asked questions about Crystal Cave Collector
Why can I not see some of the crystals?
About half of them start hidden and only reveal when you come within roughly two and a half tiles. They appear as faint dashed circles beforehand, so if you can see a dashed outline in the dark, there is something there worth walking to.
Is the cave the same every time?
No. Every run generates a new cave from a room-and-corridor algorithm. The algorithm guarantees every crystal it places is reachable, so a level is never impossible — just large.
What happens when the cave crawler catches me?
You lose one energy unit, your combo resets and you restart from the cave entrance with your collected crystals intact. Losing all three energy units ends the expedition.
Does the timer carry over between levels?
No. Each level gets a fresh clock, slightly shorter than the last. Time left when you clear a level converts into bonus points at fifteen points per second.
Is this game playable on a phone?
Yes. On touch devices you get direction buttons below the play area, and you can also drag anywhere on the canvas to steer, which is quicker in open chambers.
