About Castle Gem Hunt

Castle Gem Hunt is the deepest search game on the site. Around seven in ten gems start hidden — noticeably more than Crystal Cave Collector — which means that unlike a maze game, you cannot clear a level simply by walking every corridor. You have to walk every corridor close enough, and in wide halls that is not the same thing.

The mechanic that makes this fair is the proximity pulse: a ring around your character that appears when undiscovered treasure is within about 340 pixels and pulses faster as you close in. It turns searching from guesswork into a readable signal, and it is the reason this game feels like hunting rather than sweeping.

The guards are deliberately indifferent to you. They walk corridors and turn at walls, never homing in, which means they are a puzzle to be timed rather than a chase to be outrun. Learning one guard's loop is usually worth more than any amount of speed.

How to play Castle Gem Hunt

Objective

Find and collect all the treasure hidden in the fortress, then reach the exit before the clock runs out.

Keyboard

  • ↑ ↓ ← → / WASD — Move through the fortress
  • P / Esc — Pause and resume
  • M — Mute or unmute
  • R — Restart once the run is over

Touch

  • Direction buttons — Move through the halls
  • Drag on the play area — Steer toward your finger
  • Tap the play area — Start the run from the ready screen

What to avoid

Two patrolling guards that walk the corridors on their own routes, plus spikes and unstable orbs in the halls. A guard costs an energy unit and returns you to the entrance.

How to collect gems in Castle Gem Hunt

Walk over treasure to collect it. Hidden treasure appears as a faint dashed outline and becomes solid once you come within roughly two and a half tiles, with a chime and a 'FOUND' marker. The generator weights chambers heavily toward treasure gems, diamonds and the occasional rare gem, so a hall is almost always worth the detour a corridor is not. Every gem must be collected before the exit opens, so nothing is skippable.

Treasure

Worth 35 points. Bar-shaped treasure gems mark a route worth a detour.

Jewels

Worth 25 points. Hexagonal, and usually placed just past an obstacle.

Diamonds

Worth 50 points. Bright white and always in an awkward position.

Gems

The standard collectible, worth 10 points before your multiplier. The backbone of every streak.

Power-ups

Speed Boost

Increases your movement speed for six seconds. Faster routes, but less time to read what is ahead.

Shield

Absorbs one collision. Your run and your collection streak both survive the hit.

Gem Magnet

Pulls nearby gems toward you for eight seconds, so you can hold a streak through an awkward gap.

Scoring and combos

Treasure pays base value times your multiplier — and this is the game where the multiplier matters most, because the average gem value is the highest on the site. Clearing a level awards 300 points plus fifteen for every second remaining. A level cleared with a five-times multiplier and forty seconds spare can be worth more than three levels played badly.

The combo rule

Every five gems collected in a row raises your multiplier by one, to a ceiling of five times. A missed gem or an unshielded hit sends it straight back to one. Twenty gems collected as one unbroken chain is worth roughly three times the same twenty gems collected with breaks in between.

Your streak runs across the level. The hazard is the guards: a caught run resets the multiplier and sends you back to the entrance, which in a search game also costs you the route you were halfway through. Timing a guard crossing correctly is therefore worth far more points than it looks.

Difficulty

Medium, with a long clock. The first fortress gives you 110 seconds, two guards and a ten-by-seven layout. Each level adds rooms and a guard, and tightens the timer. Because so much treasure is hidden, difficulty scales with how much ground you have to cover carefully rather than with reaction demands.

Tips for a better score

  1. Stand still for a moment when the proximity ring appears. The pulse rate is much easier to read when you are not moving.
  2. Sweep halls in a spiral rather than a straight line. Wide rooms hide treasure in the middle, where a wall-following route never passes.
  3. Learn one guard's loop rather than avoiding both. Predicting one is worth more than fleeing two.
  4. Cross behind a guard at the moment it turns. That is when it is furthest from where it is going.
  5. The speed power-up converts directly into coverage here — take it early rather than saving it.
  6. If you are missing the last two or three gems, go back to the widest room you crossed in a straight line. That is almost always where they are.

Frequently asked questions about Castle Gem Hunt

What is the ring that appears around my character?

The proximity pulse. It shows when undiscovered treasure is within about 340 pixels and pulses faster the closer you get. Standing still for a second makes the rate much easier to read.

How much of the treasure is hidden?

Roughly seven in ten pieces. That is more than any other game on the site, and it is why walking every corridor is not enough — you have to walk them close enough to reveal what is there.

Can the guards see me?

No. They walk corridors and turn at walls on their own routes, and they never home in on you. They are a timing puzzle, which is why learning one loop beats trying to outrun both.

Why will the exit not open?

Because there is still treasure in the fortress. The exit opens only when the last piece is collected, and the counter in the HUD shows how many remain.

Is this harder than Crystal Cave Collector?

Harder to search, easier to survive. More of the treasure is hidden and the layouts are larger, but the clock is longer and the guards are slower than the cave crawler.
